Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.
The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 AMβ9:30 PM. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (832) 351-3990. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, cafeeasthouston.com.
Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 1,222 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.
Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around Houston is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Texas's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Was rushed out with the bill by the staff. The moment we finished our 2nd plate the bill was placed down on our table and as we got up to get dessert the lady said thank you for coming as if she expected us to already be on the way out as we took our time to finish our dessert the staff stood around our table talking loud and hovering around to see if we would be done. Once we got the bill the lady insisted we leave a tip. Even going as far as to repeat the total back to us twice to emphasize to us that was tip was expected. They do not need to be asking for tips and they do not need to stand around to stare at our receipt to see if we left any tip. This happened both times Ive came here.

The food at this buffet was great, but the service was not good. Our server forgot to refill our waters soooo many times. Worst part was when we didnβt know you had to pay for the to go boxes, and our server snatched it out of our hands. She couldβve told us we had to pay and we willingly wouldβve. Wish I couldβve taken my tip back lol. Would definitely go back but make sure we donβt have the same girl. Front service hostess was great though!

This place is pretty awesome. Most of the time when my boyfriend and I eat out after a plasma donation in Houston we go to this place. The food is usually really good and they have a variety from sushi, soups, salad, fruit, the normal things you see in Chinese restaurants, American food, seafood (even crawfish), and just everything lol. They do switch things out so that the same things donβt just sit out the whole time getting nasty. Their service is amazing too. They keep your drinks refilled, give you chopsticks if you want to eat with them (we usually do), and we are even now remembered after a few times. Last time we went, the server knew our drink orders (I changed mine this time) and she knew when we would be ready to go and even had our to-go drinks before we asked for them. We ask every time. lol. This place is amazing all around.

The buffet is shockingly limited. The food was clearly old you could tell it had been sitting out far too long. Vegetable options? Practically nonexistent. But here's what truly horrified me: the dessert had mold growing on top of it. When we informed management, do you know what they did? They sent the waitstaff to scrape off the mold instead of throwing the entire dessert away. Let that sink in. They thought removing visible mold made it acceptable to serve. If the dessert had mold, what else is being kept at improper temperatures? What else is out of date or spoiled? This isn't just poor quality this is a serious health hazard. We trusted this establishment with our safety, and they failed us completely. No one should have to wonder if their meal will make them sick. This is unacceptable.

I disagree with the previous reviews about this place. Itβs a buffet and that says itβs going to be a steam bar system. The food we had today was hot and tasted fresh. Everything was clean and we were greeted with a friendly staff member that sat us quickly and with a smile. I would recommend. New Yearβs Day 2026.
